The Masterpiece

She was seventy-four. Her eyes, barely able to see and her face wrinkled though her years. Lying in a bed, too weak of standing up, she called for her favorite granddaughter, the daughter of her niece, who resembles her as if she was a daughter of her never given child. She could bare a child of her own yet, she chose to live unmarried.

"Dear-", softly she whispered reaching for her hands, "Can you grant granny her last request?" The young lady couldn't turn around as her tears streamed down from her eyes and softly replied, "Certainly, grandmother, what is it?" She smiled, one of those sweetest yet heart-breaking smiles she ever gave. From her eyes, you could see through deep sadness yet, still hopeful. She closed her eyes as she muttered the gently words, "Thank you." After a few more minutes, her heart stopped beating yet the peacefulness of her gentle, smiling face remained.

A week had passed since she gave her last breath. Her granddaughter received a phone call from a popular book writer asking her to meet. And they agreed on a Saturday, after her classes.

She was rushing down the campus stairs for she was nearly late for her appointment with the writer. It was after thirty minutes when she arrived at the cafe. and was expecting the writer to have left for he was a busy man. Yet, she saw him sitting patiently with drifting thoughts. She approached the man greeting him respectfully, "Good afternoon sir, I'm sorry I was late." "It is alright", he responded, "Take a seat." As soon as she sat down, she opened her bag, and gave him a letter as she started to speak, "She asked me to give you this, sir." He stared at the beautifully folded letter with her soft sent on it and whispered, "It is... from her." He slowly opened the letter feeling her sweet gentle scent. As he started to read, it felt like she was reading the letter with him from somewhere he couldn't reach. His tears, bit by bit, fell down from his cold weary eyes as he reads...

"It had been a while, how are you? As you read this letter, I might have already died. I had been meaning to give you this letter but I couldn't bear the thought that I might be the one to keep you from your dream. So I decided to give it to you, after I die. The young woman, from whom you had acquired this letter, is my granddaughter. How I had longed for her to be the daughter of my child on which I never had. In this letter, I had included my ring. And I wanted to return it to you. Yes. The same one you gave me fifty years had passed. I wanted you to know that not once I had taken it off me. I had bought every literary piece you publicly published thinking they were written for me and hoping, someday, when you had quenched your thirst, you would come back with your promised. I guess I will still keep on hoping until my very last day. I loved you and still, even to this day, I do. And I guess your thought would always stay with me."

"My promise... to replace this fake ring with a real one... I forgot all about it..." he softly muttered to himself as his tears never seemed to end from flowing.

After a year, the writer had his last book published. It was his best-seller and critics never wanted to criticize it in any manner. On its last pages, he wrote, "Only once in one author's life could he write such a masterpiece. And only once in this author's life, he had to regret losing it. He was aspiring for a masterpiece, yet, it was far too late when he realized that the masterpiece was there all along, waiting for him. And for his punishment, he would bare the emptiness in his heart for as long as he lives."

This is angelic-being-inspired. It is obvious though you deny it.
